Bangkok and Greenland April 2011

April 13, 2011: A report from April this year from The Danish and Greenland Geological Survey conclude with accelerated melting of the icecap over Greenland in 2010 due to hot and dry weather, the newsletter from DGGS as PDF (in Danish) here.
April 3-5 the first of two UN climate workshops in the aftermath of Cancún was held in Bangkok. The European Union called for a standardised reporting back to the convent, something that could be reasonable when comparing graphs presented by different nations in Bangkok.

Norway Presentation

The Norwegian presentation seen above presents a graph where the ordinate is expressed as CO2 equivalents, meaning the Y figure of the graph in addition to "CO2 to air" from combustion include other greenhouse gas emissions like the extremely potent fluorides discharged by industry and (formerly) used in hair spray and refrigerators.

Sweden + No. CO2 to air

Sweden presented a graph (above top) where greenhouse gas emission along with Gross Domestic Product (GDP) was expressed as an index with value set to 1 in 1990.As I understand such curves are influenced by the value of the offset point (here 1990) and will therefore differ slightly from country to country, depending of emission at the index setting point, and should probably be avoided when reporting back.Above bottom is a simple "CO2 to air" curve 1990 - 2009 made with a calculator from tables from the "Statistics Norway" webpages.
