LyX Document Processor

LyX DP

Jul. 9, 2010: It took me some effort to adapt to this document processor released under the GNU free software license, available for MAC, Linux, Windows and even OS/2 platforms, but exploring the software was worth the time.

As long as I remember TEX (typographic system) and LATEX (scripting language) has been part of the core of Linux distributions, and until now I have not paid attention to these packages after installation of Linux, looking more or less upon the forced TEX / LATEX install as just waste of hard disk space. And now after playing with the the LyX interface to TEX/LATEX (on Windows platform) for a short time I find this DTP/Word processing system a real gem!.

It will output beautyful, professional looking PDF documents with a classic journal or book layout, including inline and block chemical and mathematical notations.Formatted formulas from PDF documents I have found easily can be copied to the clipboard with Foxit PDF Readers snapshot tool, and then pasted into f.ex. Irfan View for further image processing.

With its classic document styles I believe LyX also would make the perfect tool for a poet.
